Aster Frikartii “Monch”
Aster Persian Rose
Daisy-like late summer to fall blooms. Excellent as cut flowers. Colors range from white to red and purple.
Blooms are red, pink, white, or purple with very aromatic foliage. Also called bergamot and used in tea. Attracts hummingbirds and butterflies. Spreads aggressively.
Golden yellow blooms with green to dark brown center will grow in clay soil and withstand drought. Seed heads are attractive to birds. Petals will sometimes be streaked with red or bronze. Plants will re-seed themselves as well as come back from the root.
Diverse group in color and flower shape. Shasta daisies are white with a yellow center and bloom in June and July. Fall mums can range in shape from daisy-like forms to pincushion and pompom. Flowers come in every color except blue and can last from late summer to early winter.
Most commonly bloom yellow to rose. Heaviest flowering in early summer, but many varieties will rebloom until frost. Varieties like Moonbeam, and American Dreams have lacy, fern-like foliage that is attractive even when the plants are not in flower. Drought tolerant.
Hundreds of varieties of daylilies are available in colors ranging from white to deep purple, yellow, pink, orange and red. Some varieties, like the golden Stella d’Oro bloom from late spring until fall. Taller varieties tend to bloom for only a few weeks, but have a greater color range. They are sturdy and reliable plants that increase from year to year and tolerate a wide range of soil conditions.

Dainty blooms are often scented and come in numerous shades and color combinations. Some varieties have blue green grass like foliage that is evergreen in the winter. Most are suitable for the front of the border. Frosty Fire will bloom from spring to fall. Mountain Mist only blooms in the spring, but has an incredible fragrance that will perfume the whole yard. Sweet William has flowers in ball shaped clusters on tall stems and is good for cutting. Drought tolerant.

Hardy Hibiscus
Huge, dinner plate sized flowers of white, pink, or red appear every day on in mid-summer on this winter hardy plant. The plants die back down to the ground in the winter and then grow 3 to 8 feet tall every summer.
