The Barn Nursery was founded in the early 1960’s. In those early days, it was known simply as The Barn and was indeed a pre-Civil War dairy barn located on McFarland Avenue in Rossville. Georgia. There, Jim’s dad Frank along with Jim’s mother Wanda, sold various fruits and vegetables and were a staple in the community for many years.
“...it all started in a dairy barn.”
Frank passed away in 1980 and Jim returned home from college to run the family business. Jim added some hanging baskets and found that they sold well and decided to add some shrubs to the inventory. Jim slowly began to learn the nursery business literally from the ground up. The business grew to include not only those hanging baskets and shrubs, but a wide variety of trees and bedding plants as well. Thanks to Jim and his new wife Cindy’s hard work, the business prospered to the point that more space was needed Jim drew up the plans and the move was made to the present location in Chattanooga at the I-24, 4th Avenue exit.
